    "OBITUARY.
    MR. HENRY BENN6ETT
A very old colonist in the person of Mr. Henry Bennett passed away on Saturday -morning. Deceased was born in 1815 at Islington, London, and was descended from a branch of the Tankervilles, a purely Welsh family. Two generations had carried on extensive silk manufactories at Macclesfield, importing the raw material in their own ships, and carrying out large contracts with the Government and the East India Company. Various causes, however, ruined the silk trade, and the business was abandoned. The younger members of the family came to the colonies to seek their fortunes, the eldest and youngest sons, Messrs. Henry and Samuel Bennett, selecting Tasmania, and Mr. Francis Bennett settling in Sydney. Mr. Henry Bennett left England on March 27, 1838, in the barque Wave, Captain Goldsmith, and arrived at Hobart Town on July 18. He became a member of the firm of Perkins and Bennett, which commenced business in Launceston in October of 1838 at the corner of Brisbane and St. John streets, where Barclay's buildings now stand. Mr. Bennett's connection with the business lasted till 1860, when he retired. He married in 1841 the eldest daughter of Mr. William Joseph Ring, who, with Mr. Henry Priaulx, afterwards Commissary-General, had, some two years before Mr. Bennett's arrival, chartered the Wave to bring their families and possessions from Guernsey to the colonies. Mrs. Bennett died in 1872. Mr. Bennett was made a justice of the peace in 1868, and has been on the Savings Bank board of management since March, 1853. He leaves one son-Mr. W. H. Bennett, of Bloomfield, Ross and three daughters - Mrs. Bishop Lyne, New South Wales; Mrs. H. L. Crowther, Franklin, Huon; and one unmarried. The funeral will leave St. John's Church at 4 p.m. to-day."7
