    "OBITUARY,
    MR. J. L. AULD.
At 2 p.m. on Saturday death claim-ed a much-esteemed resident of Silkstone in the person of Mr. John Livingstone Auld. The deceased, who was 53 years of age in January last, had been ailing for some two years, but it was not till January last that he suffered severely. He was born in Irvine, county of Ayr, Scotland, and he came to Queensland in the year 1883, and since that year had resided mostly in the Bundanba district. He was engaged as an engine-driver at various coal mines in the Bundanba district, but, being of an energetic and enterprising spirit, he, some years ago, became part proprietor of the Bogside Colliery. So successful were his and his co-partners' operations that they also opened the Ferney Creek and Wattle Glen Collieries. 'The deceased had always taken an active interest in the coal trade, and as a proprietor he gained the esteem and respect of the men in his employ. He was an energetic supporter of the Mine-Managers' Association, and was also a prominent member of the West Moreton Coal-Owners' Association. He always manifested keen interest in Association football, and he was an honoured vice-president of the Monte Football Club. He was of a genial and kindly disposition, and the tidings of his death caused profound regret, which was not confined to the mining community. He is survived by his widow, six daughters (the youngest of whom is 12 years of age), and a son (Mr. Alexander Auld, of Bundanba), for all of whom much sympathy has been expressed. The funeral took toov place yesterday afternoon, and the particularly long cortege bore unmistakable evidence of the esteem in which the deceased was held. A number of mlembers of the John Wycliff Lodge, Protestant Alliance Friendly Society of Australia, marched in processional order. The Coal-Owners' Association was represented by Mr. H. G. Noble (vice-president). The burial rite at the graveside was performed by the Rev. T. L. H. Jenkyn, B.A. (rector of St. Paul's Anglican Church), and the interment ritual of the P.A.F.S.O.A. was read by Bro. James Reid."5
